He is angry with immigrants, not with himself or the policies of his country. So, for convenience, he votes for the AfD, which does not provide a solution to his problem, but promises to deport the Syrian with 4 children...
I'm seeing a lot of comments about the AfD's victory in East Germany. The paradox that arises is this: how is it possible that the former communist part of Germany votes for an extreme right-wing alternative?!
To simplify the equation, I'm explaining it with an example from one of my German professors, who told us this: In the 5 Länder of East Germany, the average German is most often unemployed or on state support. He sits under the palace and smokes a cigarette.
While he smokes, a Syrian family passes in front of him, parents with 4 children. The ordinary German, unemployed and uneducated, sticks out his fingers and counts: 250+250+250+250= 1 thousand euros. So, the ordinary German thinks, the Syrian gets 1 thousand euros just from the children. 600 euros from the Jobcenter (they went to 1600). With 1600 euros minimum and with rent paid, a family from Syria lives normally in East Germany.
After doing this calculation, the average German looks at himself. He doesn't have a child to receive benefits from. He doesn't have a school to do a good job. If he works an 8-hour day, due to the level of wages and taxes, he will receive approximately as much money as the Jobcenter gives him if he remains unemployed and on benefits.
In this sense, he is angry with immigrants, not with himself or the policies of his state. So, for convenience, he votes for the AfD, which does not provide a solution to his problem, but promises to deport the Syrian with 4 children or cut off aid in other cases.
Meanwhile, in West Germany, where the far right and other parties have mainly won, Germans don't have time to go out under the palace and count the children of Syrians or other immigrants, because people there are busy with work, and no one has time to count on their fingers, multiplying the number of children by the amount of assistance for each.
That's the story. It has nothing to do with ideology or anything else.
It is the economy, the social, cultural and spiritual level.
