The communications made public reveal that Epstein had a particular interest in Slovakia, not only for political influence but also for recruiting young Slovak women.
Communications between former Slovak diplomat Miroslav Lajčák and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein continue to be discussed in Slovakia a month after Lajčák resigned from his position as an advisor to Prime Minister Robert Fico. Lajčák is trying to convince the public that he is a victim of "hyenas", but for the opposition, this resignation is not enough. The opposition is demanding an investigation into the affair, writes "Süddeutsche Zeitung".
The leaked communications reveal that Epstein had a particular interest in Slovakia, not only for political influence but also for recruiting young Slovak women. According to the documents, in October 2018, Lajčák wrote to Epstein: “I reminded Steve Bannon of the invitation to Slovakia to meet with Fico.” Bannon was a trusted man and ideological advisor to Donald Trump.
In the communications, Epstein expressed a desire to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, with whom Lajčák had close ties since his studies in Moscow. Lajčák's response was this: "I adore Lavrov". In addition to politics, the name of another Slovak woman constantly appears in the acts: Nad'a Marcinková. This former model, who once graced the covers of fashion magazines, ended up as the pilot of Epstein's private jet, known as the "Lolita Express", which was used to transport victims of abuse.
While Robert Fico's government is trying to block further clarifications, the opposition refuses to remain silent. Beáta Jurík, an MP from the Progressive Slovakia party, has officially requested that the Prosecutor General launch a criminal investigation.
"We want real investigations," she declared, stressing that the case is too serious to be closed with a simple resignation. Despite the scandal, Lajčák has not been left out. He continues to hold his position on the supervisory board of the oil company "Slovnaft", which is part of the Hungarian MOL group.
