Red line for Albanians

Red line for Albanians

Fortunately for all Albanians, Kosovo was the "red line" of American patience. Otherwise there would be war!

The overthrowing president of communism, George Bush, the Father, made any of Milosevic's adventures conditional on the use of force with his famous Christmas warning of 1992. "Step into Kosovo and you will have war"! Moral right, strength and fate caused that a decade and a half later, another American president, George Bush, Jr., announced and implemented the independence of the Republic of Kosovo.

In today's modern Albania and Kosovo, there is only one red line: not to cross the American judgment in any case and for any reason. Even when logic, law or even sovereign morality would seem to dictate the opposite. In this corner of the globe, the Americans are right even if some Albanians may think they are wrong. Because the part is always worth less than the whole. Because the finish has much more weight than the roads that can be followed. Because the fate of the nation is infinitely more important than that of individuals, whether they are in power or alternative power.

In a world where justice is still only an aspiration, logic, law and morality cannot win without the weight of force and the force that weighs the least in the balance.

In all probability, the crisis in the north of Kosovo, with the Serbs causing it and not the Albanians, will have a better solution than what the pessimists see, but it is also a serious argument against the optimists who take it for granted. unchanging geopolitical "loves". Such are only the interests. The former Yugoslavia, described as the wife of the East and the lover of the West, had the chance to prove this truth at the cost of war. This example is enough to clearly understand in Tirana and Pristina, that Albania and Kosovo will never manage to grow without first accepting how small countries are in front of the world; that they can never use instruments of conceit without admitting their modest size;

Democracy, even in its Balkan version, sees as a normal exercise the fact that Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania, is not loved or hated by almost half of the Albanians. It is also normal that Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of Kosovo, is loved and idolized by almost half of the citizens of Kosovo. The problem is that if both of them, as well as all the citizens in front of them, see this relationship as eternal. Only temporality is eternal and both, like Rama, like Kurti, are temporary in their duties, which have, first of all, only one basic function: to fulfill the eternal aspiration of the Albanians as a nation! And here, Rama, if not superior, has uninterrupted continuity. And here Kurti, if not a disadvantage, has zigzag movements.
Albin Kurti has been subjected to a barrage of criticism from official politics in Washington, Berlin, Paris and Brussels. He seems to be losing his status as an interlocutor between the interests of the Republic of Kosovo and international partners. His credibility is called into question, as is that of a player who makes a very high bet for a minimal gain. Who knocks down the whole wall of the house when he only needs to change the color of the wall paint. But perhaps, more dangerous than the criticism of him in English, are the hypocritical praises they give him in Albanian. Kurti should really be afraid of the love and adoration that comes to him from Tirana, mainly as a gift because of the hatred and contempt that his praisers have with Rama. Although they try to convince him otherwise, he is not the final chosen one, Odysseus is not the only one destined to make history, but like Odysseus, he must learn not to listen to the sirens who sing in his ear about their own interests. The smuggling export of the political problems of Tirana to Pristina is the most serious sabotage that can be done to all Albanians, but also the other way around, from Pristina to Tirana, as it happened.
