A 28-year-old man has been arrested by police for trafficking 4 illegal immigrants to Montenegro in exchange for a payment of 1,500 euros per person.
Artur Marku, a resident of Tirana, was arrested. While the 4 immigrants were released, they were processed for illegally crossing the border.
"Specialists of the Section for Illegal Trafficking, in cooperation with the "Eagle" Special Force, the Traffic Police and the Shkodra Police Commissariat, in continuation of the work to crack down on illegalities in any form of their manifestation, based on information obtained in operational channels, regarding a citizen who would transport illegal immigrants from Gjirokastra to Shkodra, organized and finalized the police operation codenamed "By pass" , the police announced.
According to the police, 28-year-old Artur Marku has previously been convicted of theft, and this time he is charged with "aiding illegal border crossing" and "driving a vehicle in an irregular manner."
The action was carried out near the "5 Heroes of Vigut" roundabout, when the Police services located the 28-year-old driving an "Audi" vehicle without a driving license, in which he was transporting 4 immigrants towards the border with Montenegro.
"From the verifications carried out, it has emerged that the 28-year-old arrested had promised transportation from Gjirokastra towards the border with Montenegro, in return for a payment of 1,500 euros per person, to 4 immigrants who had entered Albania illegally," the police explained.
The materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Shkodra, for further action.
