The court's decision to commute the sentence of the perpetrator of the murder of police officer Novruz Cenalia has brought a strong reaction from the victim's family. His father, Asllan Cenalia, described the decision as unfair and shocking.
"The decision is unexpected for me as a parent. As a police officer, I did not expect that decision, but I hope for justice until the end," he told "TCH".
In harsh tones, he considered the decision a second blow to the family.
"The decision is a second murder for me, what can I say? We will continue legal channels," Cenalia declared, adding that she will pursue all legal channels to seek justice.
He stressed that, despite the pain, he will abide by the law: "I am a police officer, enforcing the law. There is nothing worse than what happened to us, but we will try to cope with it."
The victim's father confirmed that the decision will be appealed to the highest authorities, including the Supreme Court.
"We will take the decision to the Supreme Court, I hope justice will be served. I have left it to the justice system to do its job," he said.
Police officer Novruz Cenalia was killed on May 13, 2024 in the village of Baltëz in Fier by Azgan Mernica, after a conflict over weak motives. Initially, the perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment, but the court recently decided to reduce the sentence to 35 years in prison.
