Media across the Adriatic report that the victim is truck driver Haris Shala, father of a very young girl, living in Pisa.
The accident happened yesterday around 10:15 on the A22 Brennero motorway in the southern carriageway, specifically in the stretch between Nogarole Rocca (in the province of Verona) and the Mantua Nord tollbooth.
The highway was closed earlier from 6:20 a.m. to 8:22 a.m. to move a trailer that had overturned on the road. The highway was then reopened to one lane to allow some traffic to clear, before a subsequent closure at 9:40 a.m. needed to remove the trailer. A few minutes later, the second, even more tragic accident occurred, where the 25-year-old Albanian lost his life.
The collision occurred between two trucks that were both traveling in the direction of Modena. Betrayed by the rain and poor visibility, the victim Haris Shala did not notice the vehicles stopped in the convoy and hit the last car in the line. After the powerful collision, the Albanian driver residing in Pisa, died inside the cab of the truck, which crumpled from the collision.
An ambulance, a helicopter, the traffic police and the fire brigade arrived at the scene. During the rescue operations, which ended around noon, the stretch of highway between the Nogarole Rocca and Mantua Nord toll booths remained closed to traffic. Firefighters, who arrived from Verona with two vehicles, including a crane and seven operators, used spreaders and hydraulic shears to extricate Harris' body from the cab of the truck. Unfortunately, however, despite the help, nothing could be done. The accident caused at least 8 kilometers of traffic jams from the entrance to the A4.
Haris Shala was well known in the city. For some time he was working as a truck driver, even spending some days outside the city. He had followed "Pacinotti" and liked to play football. "He was a good boy, but also very responsible," remembers Marco, a schoolmate -. An integrated and likeable person. We are really very sorry. This news shocked us".
Herta, Haris's cousin, is desperate: "There are no words - she says, overwhelmed by tears - the pain at this moment is really great."
The Shala family was already hit by another very heavy loss on October 17, 2021./ Lanazione.it
