The family members of the married couple who lost their lives on the afternoon of February 12 on the Lezhë-Shëngjin road returned to the site of the tragic accident.
Amidst great pain and tears, they laid wreaths of flowers and lit candles in honor of the victims, 33-year-old Paulin Zefi and his wife Zhaklina Hysa.
The families of the deceased are demanding that attention be paid to this road axis, as the lack of standards is leading to accidents with fatal consequences for life.
Concerns about the degradation of the Lezhë-Shëngjin road and the lack of signage in this segment have also been raised by residents of the area.
They are demanding measures and increased police presence to avoid accidents on this road, which is quite busy during the summer season.
"The road here is very bad. Cars have hit 5 people in our neighborhood. We have made requests, but they have not approved them. It is very dangerous for us too. Cars are going at 150 and 180 per hour. There are no police here. The police are on the bridge, they are in the shade. I don't want to judge anyone, there is no state here, man. The state has been finished here, it is finished. It should be with other, normal standards. Here the road is straight, it goes at 180 kilometers per hour, it goes around that curve and enters someone else's parcel. It takes the other one in front, so here I don't know, let the state intervene, or let us lock ourselves inside and not go out at all. Or even when we go out, let us give our hand to the house, so that we either return or we don't return," said the resident.
Paulin Zefi and his wife Zhaklina Hysa lost their lives after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck.
The police are awaiting the response of the expert report to determine the causes and circumstances of this tragic accident, but the lack of road standards and signage remain a concern on this 7 km long segment.
