The Volos Court in Greece is expected to hold a hearing today on the security measure against 40-year-old Pandeli Nakoleci, who is accused of stabbing his 36-year-old wife, Marjola Nakoleci, a mother of four children, after a jealous argument.
The mass is expected to be held at 11:00 local Greek time. Greek media reports that the perpetrator faces charges of 'intentional murder of a member of his family, in the context of domestic violence'.
As he arrived at the courthouse, the author did not answer any questions from reporters, while the guard opened the way for him to pass. In fact, to avoid being lynched by the angry crowd that had gathered, the 40-year-old entered the Volos courts through the back door, while also wearing a bulletproof vest.
At the same time, at 11:00, the funeral of the 36-year-old mother will take place in Albania. The couple's eldest daughter "promised" to wear a white dress so that she would be beautiful on her final journey.
According to the forensic examination conducted in Thessaloniki, the fatal blow to the unfortunate woman was in the chest from a cutting tool, resembling a large knife, while the 36-year-old had other injuries, as well as defensive marks on her hands, an indication that she tried to defend herself while chasing her husband.
After his arrest, Nakolec apologized and expressed remorse, but gave contradictory statements. He is known as a person with a criminal record, several convictions, and a mental health condition.
At the same time, the issue of custody of the family's four children remains serious. Three of them are minors, aged 6, 13 and 16, while there is also an 18-year-old daughter who has just reached the age of majority.
By order of the Volos Prosecutor's Office, an urgent social investigation was launched by the Volos Municipality Social Service. Social Workers and Psychologists have begun contacts with relatives from both sides, in order to examine what would be the best environment for the children.
According to media reports, the 36-year-old's two sisters, one in Skiathos and the other in Italy, have expressed interest, as has her paternal grandfather, who lives in Albania. The children's intention is to remain in Greece and the most likely scenario being considered is for the aunt in Skiathos to be given custody, with financial support from the aunt in Italy, according to ERT.
All procedures will be completed once the children return from Albania, while the final decision will be made by the Prosecutor's Office.
The defendant's lawyer, who received the case file on Monday, is expected to request a psychiatric examination to examine the 40-year-old's mental state at the time of the crime. They are relying on psychological factors that drove the 40-year-old to commit domestic violence.
