Will Dritan Dajti get out of the cell or not? The first hearing in the Supreme

It started today in the Supreme Court, one of the most sensational trials in the country. We are talking about the trial against Dritan Dajti, as the Supreme Court will decide whether he will be released from the cell, or will remain there for life.

Dritan Dajti was found guilty by the Appeal for the murder of 4 policemen, Altin Dizdari, Fatos Xhani, Sajmir Duçkollari and Kastriot Feskaj, being sentenced to 25 years in prison. Dajti's case is well-known, as his trial dragged on endlessly and in the end he succeeded, as he was sentenced according to the legal provisions when the crime was committed, that is, when life imprisonment did not exist.

After 4 years of waiting, the members of the Supreme Court, Sandër Simoni, Medi Bici, Ilir Panda, decided to consider the criminal case appealed by the Prosecution of Serious Crimes on April 4, 2019.

The charge in this session was not represented by the Special Prosecutor's Office, the successor to Serious Crimes, but by the General Prosecutor's Office.

It will be a prosecutor of this prosecution who will defend the recourse of Serious Crimes, which have requested the sentence of life imprisonment of Dritan Dajti for the charge of murder in qualifying circumstances of 4 state police officers, illegal possession of weapons and Use of State Police symbols.

For these accusations in 2019, two judges of Vlora Skënder Damini and Petrit Alia, delegated by the Supreme Court to the Appeal of Serious Crimes for the trial of this case, decided to overturn the decision of the first instance that sentenced Dajti to life imprisonment by sentencing him that with 25 years in prison.

For this decision-making, the judges were divided 2 to 1, where the judge of Shkodra, Fuad Vjerdha, decided to come out with an opinion against, sticking to the argument that Dajti should be sentenced to life imprisonment.

After this decision, which sentenced Dajti to 25 years in prison, the Prosecutor's Office of Serious Crimes and the state police carried out 4 house inspections in Tirana, Vlora and Shkodër, where the focus was on the houses of judges and Dajti's relatives.

An investigation was launched into the charge of Corruption but time passed and the investigation faded along the way.

It is learned that today's session at the Criminal College of the Supreme Court has been postponed. The next session was set for June 11.

It is learned that within a week, Dritan Dajti, from Peqin prison, has sent a barrage of requests to the Court's secretariat, demanding the dismissal of two judges of the Criminal College, Sandër Simoni and Medi Bici.

Dajti's request for the dismissal of judge Medi Bici was accepted on May 31, 2024 by the other member of the Supreme Court, Arbena Ahmeti, bringing Bici's removal from the trial of this criminal file.

In the court decision disclosed by Arbena Ahmeti, it is stated that:

"...earlier on April 2, 2024, Medi Bici submitted to the President of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, the request to waive the consideration of this case.

However, the president of the Supreme Court, with the decision of April 17, 2024, after examining the request, has decided: "The rejection of the request of the member of the Supreme Court, Medi Bici, to waive the trial of the criminal case registered with the Supreme Court, against Dritan Dajti...".
