The court of Ioannina has rejected Laert Haxhiu's request for political asylum in Greece.
The news is made public by local sources, who told Top Channel that the accused Laert Haxhiu, after his request for asylum was rejected, was sent under strict security measures to Korridhalo prison, where he will be held until the final evaluation of his request for asylum from the Greek Supreme Court.
This decision is expected to be made within a period of no more than 90 days.
Confidential sources from the court of Ioannina said that Haxhiu's defense had a basic argument in the request for asylum, the publications in the media that "his life is endangered by rival gangs in Albania, but at the same time Laert Haxhiu is also endangered by the regime of Prime Minister Rama because according to his defense, Haxhiu risks being persecuted by the Rama regime for his philo-Greek feelings, as there philo-Greeks and minorities are persecuted, referring to the case of the elected mayor of Himare, as a flagrant case of the persecution of Vorio-Epiros", as the defense expressed in front of the jury .
It is worth mentioning that Lart Haxhiu is represented by the same law office that has represented almost all persons with criminal records who have received political asylum in Greece in recent years in Greece.
As it is known from the publications of the decisions of the Greek high court, these persons have won asylum in Greece, precisely because of their philo-Greek feelings and the threats of the anti-Greek regime in Albania.
In all cases, witnesses in the trials where asylum was decided for these persons, high-ranking leaders of an association that takes the protection of the Greek minority in Albania, as well as a high-ranking official of the Albanian state who even travels to testify in the Court of The Greek High Court is in favor of every asylum request case that the office in question takes over.
Also, Top Channel learned that the translated file with the evidence and testimonies linking Haxhiu to a series of crimes in Albania and two murders committed in Greece has not yet arrived in Athens, which will most likely enable him to be released within a few months.
