A 30-year-old Albanian, who was previously accused of the murder of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis in December 2023 in Rentis, has been arrested in Greece as part of a criminal group involved in cannabis and cocaine trafficking in the Western Attica area.
According to Greek authorities, the Albanian is one of four people arrested in a police operation that targeted a drug distribution network based in Agia Varvara. Investigations revealed that the group was using an apartment in the area as a distribution point for narcotics.
Two of the suspects were arrested in Koridallos after being caught with quantities of raw and processed cannabis, which were allegedly obtained from the 30-year-old and a 27-year-old, considered his main accomplice. Police later arrested the leader and deputy leader of the group at the apartment in Agia Varvara.
Authorities say the 30-year-old has a serious criminal record, including charges of rape, theft, resisting law enforcement, weapons violations and several drug-related cases dating back to 2014. He has also previously been investigated for intentional homicide and robbery.
Other members of the group also have criminal records. The 27-year-old is suspected of involvement in robbery gangs and illegal possession of weapons, while a 34-year-old was arrested in 2011 as part of an organization that transported large quantities of cannabis to Western European countries.
Investigations continue to fully uncover the group's activities and possible links to other criminal networks.
