How the event happened in 2012
The two brothers who were executed with bullets in the head on the evening of December 1, 2012 in Tirana (Iglent Haxhialiu, 44 years old, and Sokol Haxhialiu, 41 years old, also known as Nikola) were owners of several businesses in Tirana and Vlora. The brothers from Berat had been living in Tirana in the area of the former Block for several years and owned 3 apartments on the sixth floor of a building.
Iglenti was married and at that time his two sons were one 17 and the other only 1 years old. While Sokoli (Nikola), who was driving the "Mazda" type car with license plate TR 9205 S when the murder happened, was single. The victims owned a paint business and used this activity mainly in the reconstruction of buildings, mainly in the area of the former Block, and were also involved in the sale and purchase of real estate.
They also owned a luxury hotel in the area of Dhërmi in Vlorë, the money for the construction of which they allegedly borrowed from the suspected author of the event, Eduart Kurti. For several months, Kurti had begun to remind them of the debt and the 5 percent interest of the 200,000 dollars they had borrowed. For this reason, it is suspected that the double crime took place in the car in which the brothers were traveling.
