An Albanian convict has managed to escape from the high-security Koridhalos prison in Greece, setting in motion police forces to capture him.
According to initial information, the suspect is Edmond Tafa, 48, who was serving a sentence for drug trafficking. The escape occurred at a moment when prison staff were carrying out the usual procedures for removing waste from the institution.
The Albanian is suspected of having taken advantage of the opening of the security gate and quickly left the prison premises, losing track before officers intervened.
Greek authorities have set up checkpoints and are conducting checks in the area, but so far it has not been possible to locate him.
It is believed that he has long studied prison security procedures, movements, and automatic door opening and closing.
Authorities have launched investigations to find and arrest Tafa, while simultaneously examining the circumstances under which the escape was possible, as well as any responsibility in the functioning of security measures in the prison.
This is because there are suspicions that he may have been helped from inside the prison by guards, making it easier for him to escape.
Investigators are examining all leads regarding the escape method. It has not yet been determined whether this was a previously organized plan or an improvised action by the convict. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
