A fatal accident was recorded in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Lushnja, where 43-year-old Ernis Xhumari, a resident of Tirana and originally from the Lushnja coalfield, lost his life.
According to sources close to the Lushnja Police, shortly before the incident, the 43-year-old passed in front of the Lushnja Police Station, slashing tires and using offensive language. After alerting the operations room, police forces were put into motion to verify the situation.
Sources indicate that, as soon as he noticed the presence of the patrol, Xhumari quickly drove away in the direction of Karbunara. During the movement, he is suspected of losing control of the vehicle in the area known as the "Plasmasit Roundabout", where he crashed and then the vehicle overturned and burst into flames. Despite the intervention and assistance provided, the 43-year-old was unable to survive.
According to the same sources, about two months ago his driving license was revoked after he was found to be driving while intoxicated and was prosecuted by the authorities.
Ernis Xhumari was the brother of the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Environment, Elda Xhumari.
"Around 01:45, on 02.06.2026, employees of the Lushnja Police Station's operations room, through security cameras, observed in front of the Police Station, a "Mercedes-Benz" type vehicle, performing erratic maneuvers, and then the driver of the vehicle got out of the vehicle screaming in front of the Police Station, an action he repeated several times.
Under these conditions, the operations room notified the General Patrol that was on duty in the city, to approach the Police Station, in order to verify the driver of the vehicle and the reason for his behavior.
The driver of the vehicle, as soon as he saw the General Patrol coming towards the Commissariat, drove away at high speed and after a few minutes it is suspected that due to the high speed and the driver's loss of control over the direction of the vehicle, the vehicle crashed into the side curbs of the road, at the place called "Plasmas Roundabout" and overturned. As a result, the driver of the vehicle, citizen E. Xh., 43 years old, resident of Tirana, lost his life.
"The investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, is working to fully clarify the circumstances and cause of the accident ," the police announced.
