A 40-year-old Albanian, whose identity has not yet been released, was captured by the Italian police in Cefalu, Sicily, on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by the Albanian authorities.
The 40-year-old was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Court of Tirana for murder, illegal possession of weapons and robbery. The incident for which he is accused happened in the early 2000s where he executed a person after a robbery and since then he has been hiding in Italy under a false identity.
The identification of the arrested person is the result of the investigative activity coordinated by the Termini Imerese Public Prosecutor's Office and carried out by the Operative Unit - Operative Section of the aforementioned company on the basis of the information received and the control of the territory carried out by the Lascari Carabinieri Station.
The subsequent investigative developments, confirmed by the technical activity and the exchange of information with the Albanian authorities through the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police - Service for International Police Cooperation, made it possible to obtain elements capable of ascertaining the exact details of the fugitive.
The arrested person has been placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority for the purpose of extradition to Albania.
