The police in Kukës announce that they have arrested two people, after they helped a 25-year-old man to cross the border illegally to Great Britain.

Now the 25-year-old is being held hostage in France by some third-country nationals, who are demanding a sum of money to release him.

The State Police, through Interpol Tirana, is cooperating closely with Interpol Lyon, in France, in order to identify, locate and capture the perpetrators who are holding the 25-year-old hostage," the police announced.

Following the investigative actions carried out within the "Garanti" operation, the following citizens were arrested: Shpresim Hasanaj, 26 years old, resident of the village of Muholaj and Astrit Elezi, 31 years old, resident of Kukës, for the offense of "Helping illegal crossing of borders", carried out in cooperation.

These two citizens, in cooperation with each other, have helped the citizen AS, 25 years old, resident of Kukës, to illegally cross the border from Kukës to Belgium and then to France, with the final destination Great Britain. In cooperation with Interpol and the contact officer in France, work continues to identify and capture other citizens implicated in this case.

The investigative structures of DVP Kukës, in cooperation with the Criminal Police Department and Interpol Tirana, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, are working closely with the French Police and Interpol Lyon, for the identification, localization and capture of the perpetrators, as well as to document whether the 2 citizens arrested in Kukës, who helped the AS citizen to illegally cross the border from Albania to France, did they cooperate or not with the citizens who took the 25-year-old hostage in France", said the police.
