Shkodra was shaken this morning by a serious incident, where an American tourist, Sandra Saporito, only 53 years old, was killed by her partner, Brendon Saporito, 57 years old.
After the murder, the perpetrator attempted suicide by cutting his wrist with a knife, but appears to have escaped with only minor injuries.
Police said he was escorted away while the 57-year-old was intoxicated.
Shkodra seems to have been the final destination of what was supposed to be an adventure for the couple.
One of the friends wrote in a post on the author's profile on March 21: "So happy that Jason and I spent the last night with Brendon and Sandra before they embark on some incredible new adventures in life! We wish them and their adorable puppy Harvey endless joy, complete health, and the most wonderful experiences of their lives! How lucky we were to be together before your departure."
It was a departure with hearts full of dreams. The couple had decided to leave the US for good. On March 24, they sold their last car and prepared for a new start in Europe.
"It's becoming a reality! The car was sold and tomorrow is our last day in the US before we move to Europe! I feel excited!" Sandra wrote in a post filled with joy and emotion.
On social media, she shared details about the journey that awaited her:
"We will start with a slow tour of Europe first. We will stay in the Balkans for a while and then travel around Europe until we find a house we like and buy. We will start with Albania, where we plan to stay for 9 months and then we will make 1 or 2 month visits to several countries."
On March 27, Sandra and Brendon arrive in Albania. Their first destination is Tirana, where they spend a few quiet days filled with positive experiences.
"We have fallen in love with Tirana," Sandra wrote on March 30, sharing photos from the Pyramid and the Artificial Lake Park. In every photo, in every post, Harvey, their puppy, is also present, an inseparable part of the family and this trip.
