A momentary conflict and clash brought a life cut short. 23-year-old Hekuran Cumani, of Albanian origin and born and raised in Fabriano, tragically lost his life after a fight outside a university club in Perugia, Italy.
According to Italian authorities, it all started inside the club, where a verbal altercation between two groups of young men, including suspects of Tunisian and Moroccan origin, escalated into violence after the boys went outside.
A man got out of a car with two knives in his hand. He first stabbed Hekurani's brother in the thigh. Then, when Hekurani rushed to help him, he received the fatal stab wound to the neck.
Security camera footage was not functional, but the testimonies of friends and bystanders helped identify the suspected perpetrator, while investigations to find the crime weapon are still ongoing.
Hekurani was a dedicated, quiet young man and much loved by those who knew him. He worked as a seasonal waiter at the Riviera Hotel and had just bought a house in San Donato. His family is devastated by the loss.
"He was the best of all. He didn't hurt anyone... They killed my son," his mother, Elsa, said through tears.
This serious crime has shocked the local community and beyond. Many of those at the club say the evening had been tense and security was inadequate.
