First victim reported in Durrës due to bad weather
The first victim from bad weather in Durrës has been recorded.
In an official announcement, Durrës police explain that a 54-year-old man was found dead in a drainage canal near the former Military Department.
After intensive searches conducted by the Police services and RENEA divers, the lifeless body of citizen Astrit Hysenaj, 54 years old, who had left the apartment, was found.
The 54-year-old turned out to be an employee of the Plazh Municipal Enterprise. It is suspected that the victim had gone to the area to verify the situation, as part of his duties, due to problems caused by rainfall and flooding.
During this time, he is suspected to have been swept away by the strong current of the water, losing his life.
An investigation team is at the scene, which, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, is working to clarify and fully document the circumstances of this case. Investigations continue, while forensic expertise is also awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
"Following the information provided a little while ago, regarding the removal from the apartment of citizen AH, 54 years old, we inform that after searches conducted by the Police services and by the Renea police, the lifeless body of the 54-year-old was found in a drainage canal near the Former Military Department. It is initially suspected that citizen AH was swept away by the water flow. The investigation team is at the scene and is working under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office to clarify and document the circumstances of the case," the police announced.
The flooding situation due to bad weather in Durrës continues to be severe, with many homes and businesses under the "power" of the water.
In Durrës, the Erzen River has overflowed its banks, flooding tens of hectares of land and surrounding homes in Katund i Ri. In the entire region, the number of people evacuated so far is reported to be 305 and 800 homes are under water. 250 people are sheltering in the Armed Forces Rest House, Durrës and 55 people are sheltering in the Ministry of Interior's Co-operative Housing.
As a result of the breach in the Drojë River embankment, there are floods in two villages in Kruja: Dukagjin i Ri and Miliska. In the village of Miliska, water has entered homes, affecting 50 families. In Shijak, there is water in 15 homes.
