One of the Greek citizens who was arrested this morning, May 23, after the seizure of 210 kilograms of cocaine seized at the Port of Piraeus bound for Albania, has a rich past in the arms and drug trade.

According to "Zougla" information, Ioannis Viglakis is an international arms and drug dealer.


He was arrested and served a 15-year sentence in US prisons after being accused of selling military weapons and rocket launchers (RPGs) to the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) in exchange for cocaine and money.

In particular, in November 2011, Ioannis Viglakis met with an undercover agent of the DEA (US Drug Enforcement Administration) who posed as an intermediary for the purchase and sale of arms and drugs between the FARC and the Greek citizen.

According to the documents of the US drug prosecution, the meetings between the Greek and the DEA agent have continued for some time in Europe and Central America.

In July 2012, the then 53-year-old IV cut the deal with the undercover DEA agent, to whom he handed over the weapons and six RPG rockets.

He also gave the DEA agent $11,200 as an advance to arrange for the shipment of cocaine to Spain.

Then "Pablo" fled to Panama, where he was arrested in August 2012 and in April 2014 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

After his release, he seems to have resumed criminal activity and today he was arrested with 3 other people (two of Albanian origin) after the seizure of cocaine in the container with frozen shrimps.

The arrested Albanians are Azdren Muharremin, 48 years old, who is suspected of being the head of the criminal organization, and Marsel Stafaj, 36 years old.

The 48-year-old Albanian is also known to the police. He was wanted in 2017 for the case of 635 thousand ecstasy worth about 10 million euros and weapons that were found after a raid in a warehouse in Koropi.

At that time, two Albanians, a Turk and a Greek were arrested, while a Turk, a former Greek policeman and the Albanian arrested today for cocaine in Pira were declared wanted.

Ioannis Viglakis, in charge of communication with other members of the criminal organization located outside Greece, for coordinating the supply and financing of the purchase of the quantities to be trafficked.

Alexandros Merkouris, responsible for the operational coverage and protection of Muharrem taking the necessary measures to avoid his arrest.
