The testimony of Remzi Azemi, wanted in Ecuador for international drug trafficking, but also as a suspect, as a person who knew about the murders of the Albanian Ilir Hidri and the other Albanian from Montenegro, Fadil Kaçaniç, events that happened in 2017, has been published. in South America.
Arrested a few days ago in Macedonia, Azemi was interrogated for the first time by prosecutor Cesar Pena, a day after Hidri's murder. Law enforcement authorities in Ecuador suspected that Azemi knew about the circumstances of the event, although his version was different.
Azemi has told about his life, how he received money from family members, but also how he arrived in Ecuador through a relative of his, the diplomat at the time, Blerim Canaj, former deputy ambassador of Kosovo in Germany. Azemi has shown that his relative had sent him to Ecuador to establish diplomatic contacts, which were not realized from 2014 to 2017, writes A2 CNN.
Interrogated regarding the murder of Ilir Hidri on May 30, 2017, Azemi revealed for the first time that he knew the victim and when the incident happened, he had been hospitalized for three days.
"Mr. Prosecutor, I have to show that since on May 27, 2017, I don't remember the time, when I was admitted to this clinic for scopolamine, since it's not the first time it's happened to me, I have to show the following: I knew him as Gent, someone else knew him as David. He called me to meet a friend at Guayaquil airport. I don't remember the date but it was in August 2016 and from there I took her to my house which is located in Bello Horizonte, Mz. 20. Villa No. 8, where I lived approximately until January 2017. Since then, I went to a friend in Puerto Sana Ana, who is Serbian and his name is Luca. I told him to help me get an apartment since he didn't have a passport and was going to run away. After he left the apartment to me, since that time, I have not seen the Albanian", says Remzi Azemi.
Remzi Azemi, suspected of being one of the leaders of the largest criminal groups in the Balkans, apparently used a network of girls who made it possible to withdraw money. Although it was suspected that it was organized crime money, Azemi told prosecutors that the money came from his family and was withdrawn through money transfer companies.
In response to the prosecution, Azemi tells for the first time the reason why he had arrived in Ecuador.
"I came on vacation, and since then I have been working on building Ecuador-Kosovo relations, as my uncle, named Blerim Canaj, who is the ambassador of Kosovo in that country, sent me. At the moment I am looking for diplomatic contacts, but I don't have any", he testified.
Although suspected of being involved in Hidri's murder, he had a strong alibi.
Prosecutor's question: Tell me if you know what the murdered Albanian was doing?
Remzi Azemi: "We don't ask them. We better not ask this question, because they call us toads. I was in Pascuales, on May 27, 2017, around 2:00-3:00 PM… more or less. Two women approached me on this street and I asked them if they wanted something to eat and invited them for a drink. They drink beers and I drink soft drinks. I remember that the moment I woke up I was hospitalized. Those women I was with took everything from me. I should point out that I had $850 with me and a cell phone. I had no problem with the murdered Albanian, not even with the issue of the house, because he paid the rent".
Azemi told prosecutors that his life in Ecuador was from the gym to home and then the same routine. He said that from the relationship with one of the girls in Ecuador, which he used to withdraw money, he also had a child. Asked if he had problems with the law, he mentions some of the names he met in 2013 and who were then arrested during the "Balkani" operation. Although, according to his testimony, he said that he got the money from his family, he managed to buy a vehicle for 17,000 dollars, which he then sold for 12,000 dollars. Meanwhile, he said he met the rest of the arrested in prison where he did not stay long.
