A 35-year-old Albanian man has been arrested in Italy by police after escaping from a detention order he was in, on serious charges such as robbery, extortion, and minor injuries.
The young man had managed to flee from the address given in Lido, and was found hiding in his girlfriend's apartment in Rome. The search took several days.
According to the investigation, coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office, the events date back to August, when the young man allegedly began a series of serious attacks against a person, in connection with a debt incurred in connection with drug trafficking.
The 35-year-old allegedly sold drugs to the victim, then demanded higher amounts, systematically using threats and physical violence. Among the most serious incidents documented by officers, the ugliest was when he allegedly ran over his “debtor” with a bicycle, injuring him, and then attacked and threatened to kill him during the ensuing fight.
Again, along with several accomplices who are currently being identified, he allegedly attempted to force his way into the victim's home several times, even setting a fire. His attacks then allegedly extended to his "debtor's" father and brother.
The discovery came during a surveillance operation near his partner's home. The presence of a car connected to it raised suspicions among officers and they decided to monitor the area.
When placed under police observation, the young woman immediately showed obvious nervousness, declaring herself innocent of any involvement and insisting that there was no one at home. The statement, given its urgency, aroused suspicion among the officers, Italian media reported.
After hearing his name called several times from the street, the man decided to surrender voluntarily, opening the gate and surrendering to the police without resistance.
Immediately sent to Regina Coeli prison, the Albanian is being investigated for robbery, serious bodily injury and attempted extortion.
