The DEA and Spanish and Portuguese authorities discovered that the drug was ordered by Albanians, who apparently used the Italian and Spanish mafias to bring the "goods" to Europe...
The Spanish, Portuguese and DEA police carried out a super operation today, arresting 9 people. They are suspected of being involved in an extensive cocaine trafficking network from Colombia to Europe. The network consisted of Albanians, Italians (part of the 'Ndrangheta) and Spaniards, part of the "Los Piturros" mafia family.
The Spanish media have released other details, where they state that it is an operation, which was initiated in April. At that time, nearly 1,500 kilograms of cocaine were seized. The police chased a boat, where the traffickers managed to get away, except for one, who when thrown into the sea was torn apart by the motor propellers of the boat. 300 kg of cocaine remained in the vehicle, while the rest they threw into the sea.
The DEA and Spanish and Portuguese authorities discovered that the drug was ordered by Albanians, who apparently used the Italian and Spanish mafia to bring the "goods" to Europe. From the Portuguese or Spanish shores, they then picked it up and transported it to Europe.
According to the media, the operation took place in an area filled with villas and luxury residences. The police cars were civilian and camouflaged, while there was also support from the air.
"It is thought that the transport was carried out by Los Piturros and that the owners of the goods were the Balkan Cartel, whose connection at the moment cannot be found, in direct connection with the Italians and the Colombians" , write the Spanish media.
But as it is known who is Ndrangheta, who is "Los Piturros"? It is about a group that belongs to the so-called Gallic clans. Traditionally, the region of Galicia lived off the fishing industry. After the fishing industry was crippled, local fishermen started smuggling tobacco to keep their business alive. The success of these tobacco smuggling activities led to the creation of clan-based groups who depended on smuggling for their entire livelihood.
But now, using their Colombian and Moroccan contacts, Galician organized crime groups traffic cocaine and hashish, in addition to illegal tobacco, to the Spanish mainland. From Galicia it spreads to the main cities of Spain through other Galician contacts or through criminal groups composed of Colombian immigrants and, more recently, Albanians.
"Los Piturros" have an extensive history of drug trafficking, appearing on the front pages of newspapers regularly. One of the most famous operations in which the entire clan was involved was the one that ended with the capture of 3 thousand kilograms of cocaine in 2003. The importance of the action was that the alleged leader of the group, José Manuel Vázquez, was captured, who was sentenced to only 13 years in prison. / Pamphlet
