The dramas of the Islamaj family in the village of Shala in Saranda seem to have started years ago. Their origin is from the Markat village of Konispol municipality, a few kilometers from Shales.
69-year-old Hysen Islamaj, who allegedly killed his wife with an ax in the early hours of the morning, was known as a problematic person by his fellow villagers.
The crime of murder seems to have the deepest roots in this family. Hysen Islamaj's father, known in the village as Xhevit Cene, has previously been suspected of at least three murders. And all three were his wives. He killed one of his wives by throwing her into a lime pit, the other by throwing her into a well, and drowned the other in the river, bringing the number of victims to three.
He was known as a very violent man in the village, also committing animal acts against his wives.
