The arrest of Kosovar Remzi Azemi was confirmed on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
The police announced that he was caught in Macedonia, in South-Eastern Europe, because he had a red notice from Interpol, wanted by Ecuador because of a murder that happened in Guayaquil and that the extradition process was expected.
The subject did not provide many details. For this reason, information portals appeared that indicated that his capture was related to the murder of the Albanian Hidri Ilir, 40 years old, which happened at 20:07 on May 30, 2017, at streets 36 and Ch, in the suburbs.
However, even though Remzi Azemi was involved in that investigation, this was not the case because he was wanted internationally. "EXTRA" media accessed a file and confirmed that Azemi was wanted because of a double execution in which the victims were the Montenegrin Fadil Kacanic and his wife, the Ecuadorian Elsa María de Fatima Gallegos Chacón.
They were abducted by a group of about fifteen individuals who identified themselves as police officers who entered their home, in the Ceibos Norte castle, northwest of the Main Port. The event happened at 05:00 on March 14, 2018.
In the process documents, reviewed by "EXTRA", it is detailed that the request to Interpol was raised after the investigators discovered that the suspect had left the country for Peru and had immigration records of trips to Germany and the Netherlands. Investigations into the case came to light in 2020, during the hearing in which it was decided that Remzi Azemi should be called to trial for the double crime.
In the minutes it is mentioned that the incident occurred due to the washing of accounts between these citizens of the European region of the Balkans. Remzi Azemi is also considered one of the suspected leaders of the Balkan mafia, as he was one of those arrested in the only operation carried out in Ecuador, in June 2014, to dismantle a group of this organization, which trafficked cocaine through Ports of Guayaquil.
The individual was identified as one of the leaders who financed this structure, with which Johnny Villalobos Moreira was also connected, as a suspected middleman. At the time, he was the partner of presenter Gineth Moreno.
So Remzi Azemit had an attempted murder at 17:20 on November 7, 2017, at the intersection of Primero de Mayo and Carchi streets, in the center of Buenos Aires. He was traveling with his wife and her 3-year-old daughter in an armored bronze Ford Explorer that had no license plates.
He was shot once in the neck and three times in the left shoulder when his wife rolled down the passenger door window, allegedly to smoke. Azemi was taken to "Luis Vernaza" hospital, where he recovered. It was the last time, before his arrest a few days ago, that his location was certain.
With the investigations, it was established that the car he was traveling in corresponded to the license plate GSU-2041. The same car was located outside the house of Gallegos and Kaçanici, as it was also registered during the fake operation for their kidnapping. As a result, the agents discovered that the true owner of the vehicle was legally Gallegos. Furthermore, on the day when they attempted to assassinate Remzi Azemi, the person who called him to go to that area was Kaçanic.
These details appear in the double murder file. However, it is not specified whether the revenge came because of that event or for some other reason, but it is learned that the death was carried out in a brutal way, especially against the Montenegrin. They left him with his hands tied and a sheet over his face. He had a gunshot wound to his chest, and his body was left on his knees, with his head towards the floor, similar to the stern position of apologetics.
