Tirana police have clarified the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja in Tirana. He was shot inside the courtroom, while two other people were injured.
The police, through a media release, announced that the perpetrator is not actually Gjon Shkëmbi, but his son, Elvis Shkëmbi, 30 years old. Initially, it was reported that it was Gjon Shkëmbi, who has appeared in the media several times complaining that there was no justice regarding a property of his.
Father and son had been in a property dispute with another party for years and were in court. Today it is learned that the verdict was announced and as soon as the judge gave the final verdict, which was against the Shkëmbi family, the 30-year-old young man pulled out a gun and shot the judge 3 times. He then turned to the other party with whom they were in the process, shooting at Rakip and Ervis Kurtaj, injuring them as well.
After the shooting, the judge managed to leave the courtroom, but then fell to the ground. Meanwhile, the perpetrator himself did not leave, he handed over the weapon to the security guard at the court.
“ At around 15:40, in the premises of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, during a court proceeding, it is suspected that citizen E. Sh., 30 years old (party to the proceedings) fired a firearm at the judge, citizen AK, and citizens RK, 65 years old and EK, 45 years old, his son (the other party to the proceedings).
As a result, citizen AK lost his life and citizens RK and E. K were injured, but their lives are out of danger.
Upon receiving the notification, the Police Services immediately went to the scene and made it possible to capture and escort to the premises of the Tirana Police Department, the suspected perpetrator, citizen E. Sh., and seized the crime weapon.
"More complete information about the incident will be provided later ," the police said.
An investigative group will work to fully uncover the incident, while two SPAK prosecutors also arrived at the scene.
