A total of 52 people were arrested during yesterday's protest, 17 of whom were arrested and investigations have been launched for 35 others while they are still at large.
The protest organized the day before by the Democratic Party was accompanied by incidents and police intervention, leading to the arrest of 52 people.
According to the official announcement, 17 of them have been arrested, while criminal proceedings have been initiated against 35 others while they are at large.
The opposition rally, called as part of the political action against the government, began with speeches and political appeals from the leaders of the Democratic Party. After the speech of the Democratic Party leader, clashes were recorded between some of the protesters and the police.
Some protesters threw Molotov cocktails towards the Prime Minister's Office building, while the police reacted by using tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The protest then moved towards the Albanian Parliament. In this area, Molotov cocktails were again reported thrown at the security forces, while the police again intervened with tear gas to disperse the protesters.
According to the police, hard objects and pyrotechnic devices were thrown at the officers, while there were attempts to break the security cordon. As a result, several police officers were injured.
Incidents were also noted in the area near the Namazgja mosque, where material damage was reported.
Police announced that the arrests were made for various criminal offenses, including resisting police officers, disrupting public order and safety, and damaging property.
As of the time of publication of this news, the Democratic Party has not reacted in detail on the balance of escorts and arrests, while it has previously accused the police of using violence against the protesters. Investigations to identify other persons involved in the incidents continue.
