The network of human trafficking that prostituted women in the service areas of the province of Valencia on the A-3 highway, dismantled in 2019 by the homicide group of the Civil Guard and Ucrif of the National Police and in turn, had consequences with a another marriage ring involving Indian and Pakistani immigrants, is now facing trial. The two "heads" risk punishment up to 21 and 26 years in prison.
Although at the time when the investigating judge of Sagunti agreed to the temporary prison sentence of some of the arrested, today they are all free for these events and exactly none of the two main defendants of Albanian nationality have appeared before the court that should judge them and nine other defendants.
Erjon Ll. has declared in absentia and his compatriot Argel L. has justified his non-appearance, through his lawyer, presenting an injury from a suspected traffic accident that he suffered just one day before the first trial session.
Thus, the Second Section of the Provincial Court of Valencia had to postpone the hearing to next Monday, pending the recovery of this suspect as leader of the prostitution network.
This organization recruited women in their countries of origin, taking advantage of their economic difficulties and lack of resources. They were offered paid jobs in Spain and organized and financed the trip to the Valencian lands. Here they were forced into prostitution to pay the debt owed to them, subject to strict controls and threats to kill them and their families if they refused.
One of the victims, who is a protected witness, was brought to Spain fraudulently in February 2019. The woman had recently lost her father and both she and her mother were led to believe that she would be working in a restaurant . But as soon as she landed in Manises, on a flight from Romania, the two main defendants made it very clear, intimidating her with all kinds of threats, that she had to prostitute her body if she wanted to stay alive.
Thus, every day she was transferred to the service areas of the said highway, in the areas controlled by the said plot, in Audi A3 and A4 vehicles, to practice prostitution from 5 pm to 2 am. The alleged pimps set the prices for the services and kept all the profits. To control their movements and communications, they have had the cooperation of other women who are also among the accused.
This control has reached the point that, according to the prosecutor's indictment, when one of them was caught sending several messages on a mobile phone, the two main accused slapped her, took her phone and threatened to they kill.
In another case, one of them pulled out a gun when the victim told them to go to a relative's funeral.
In addition to the debt money, the women had to pay 50 euros a day to practice prostitution in the aforementioned service areas, according to one of the managers who had "bought" the street where prostitution was carried out. Another point where they were forced to practice prostitution was on the CV-312 highway, near Canet d'en Berenguer.
One of them is accused of rape
There are a total of 11 defendants for whom the Public Prosecution requests different punishments. For those who did not appear after claiming an accident, the prosecutor requests 21 years in prison and a 7,200 euro fine for the criminal offense of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, related to the offense of forced prostitution and three other prostitution crimes. For the other suspected leader, who is on the run, the sentence has been increased to 26 years, where he is also accused of raping one of the victims.
Part of the profits earned by the accused were sent to their countries of origin. Between August 2011 and May 2016, investigators discovered 56 money transfer operations in Albania and Romania for a total amount of 28,400 euros.
One of the accused, without a residence permit, is accused only of the criminal offense of falsifying documents for having worked as a day laborer in the field with the documentation of one of the managers. But there is no evidence that he cooperated in the prostitution plot.
