Cocaine 'boss' Dritan Rexhepi, who was arrested on November 8 on the outskirts of Istanbul, had managed to leave Ecuador with a Colombian passport, thanks to a mistake by the prison system.
The Italian media write that the character known as the master of escapes had to stay inside the country with an electronic chip, after he was released from a 13-year prison sentence for drug trafficking.
After he left the country, investigations showed that another person had signed in his place every time he was checked at the residential address, blinding the police. As for the charges in Italy, Rexhepi is accused of trafficking a load of 4 tons of cocaine and 5.5 million euros in cash in 2020.
During this action, Italian justice arrested 20 associates of Rexhepi and declared 11 others wanted. On the phone of one of the couriers, the messages exchanged with Dritan Rexhepin, who had directed drug trafficking from the prison in Ecuador where he was held since 2014, were found.
