
A man and a woman were arrested at the Kakavija border crossing as they attempted to smuggle 60 packages of narcotics into Greece.
The State Police announced that it has finalized the operation codenamed "Modification".
The arrested are Osman Kamberaj, 44, from Fier, and Enkelejda Xhemali. A shipment of 63.2 kg of cannabis sativa packages was also seized as material evidence, and the investigation and control are ongoing.
Police said the drugs were hidden in the chassis and fender of the car. The drugs were found after operational information, suspicions and a second-line check, including the use of a drug sniffer dog.
"During intensive checks with modern logistical means and using anti-drug dogs, the Police found 60 packages of the narcotic substance Cannabis Sativa hidden inside a vehicle, with a total weight of 63.2 kilograms. The driver of the vehicle where the narcotic substance was found and a female citizen traveling with him were arrested. During the physical search of the two citizens, the Police also found 1,890 euros ," the official announcement states.
The Border Police Services, as a result of detailed checks, based on risk analysis and police intelligence, in cooperation with customs authorities, have passed a detailed check on the second line, at the exit, of the vehicle driven by Kamberaj.
" From a thorough search, using modern search techniques, the Police services found hidden in a specially created secret place in the vehicle's fenders and chassis, 60 packages wrapped in Natriban, inside which there was suspected narcotics Cannabis Sativa, with a total weight of 63.2 kilograms," the police announced.
According to initial investigative data, Kamberaj, 44, is the driver and owner of the car, while Xhaferraj, 45, also a resident of Fier, was a passenger in the vehicle where the narcotics were found.
"As material evidence, 63.2 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, 3 mobile phones, the vehicle and 1,890 euros were seized," the border police explained.
The investigations are being conducted by two police officers and the same number of prosecutors: Fier, Gjirokastër. The investigations are being conducted for the criminal offense of "narcotics trafficking", committed in collaboration.
