Albanians continue to be at the center of the international media when it comes to cocaine trafficking.
The Prosecutor's Office of the Principality of Asturias in Spain has requested 69 years in prison for 4 people, including 3 Peruvians and an Albanian. They tried to bring about 72 kg of cocaine into the port of Avilés in 2020 by ship.
All were part of a perfectly organized and hierarchical network, the Prosecution explains, in which each performed a specific function for the rapid distribution of substances. The leader of the group was a Peruvian military man with extensive knowledge of underwater operations. He was responsible for preparing the logistics, directing and coordinating the tasks of other members. He did all this with the help of another person from Albania, who was also responsible for covering the expenses, insurance during the trip and driving the vehicles. He also took the drugs to a safe place so they could later distribute them in Spain.
According to the Prosecution's investigations, the other two defendants, both Peruvian, were at a lower level and were in charge of drug recovery. They always acted under the orders of two superiors. After the work was done, they had to return to their country of origin. These two defendants were also military divers, with extensive knowledge of underwater operations.
"The head of the operation traveled by plane from Peru to Paris, with a stop in Amsterdam and from the French capital arrived in Catalonia, where the Albanian was located. Both requested accommodation and means of transport for the rest of the organization's members. In February 2020, they rented a vacation home in Avilés and two vehicles, a Volkswagen Caddy model and an Audi A-8.
Panamanian military authorities have been notified that the ship was transporting cocaine by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). After receiving the information, they contacted the Supreme Drug Prosecutor's Office of Panama to conduct an undercover activity and identify those responsible for the storage. Agents removed 60 packages of cocaine found in two bags hidden on the ship and replaced them with another 60 packages of similar characteristics, in which a harmless substance had been inserted.
On the other hand, they incorporated a device with GPS to know their location at all times. The operation was carried out on February 15, 2020 by professional divers of the National Aeronautical Service of the Republic of Panama, with the coordination of the High Drug Prosecutor's Office. After the bags were brought to the surface, they were stored until they were delivered to the Controlled Substances Laboratory of the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Panama.
After the analyzes of the seized items, the laboratory issued an expertise on February 16, 2020, in which it was established that the 60 seized packages contained the substance cocaine, with a gross weight of 72.14 kilograms", the Spanish media clarifies.
Around 02:00 am on March 12, 2020, the person in charge of the operation, together with one of the drug divers who arrived later from Peru, entered the sea through diving and went to retrieve the bags. The police then intervened arresting them and then went to the rented house arresting the other two.
The prosecution requests a sentence of 15 years in prison for the Peruvian, 19 years in prison for the Albanian and 10 years in prison for the other two accused. / Pamphlet
