Child suffered cardiac arrest, authorities launch investigation
A serious incident has been recorded in Foggia, Italy, where a 10-year-old Albanian child accidentally lost his life while playing near a fountain in the city square of Castelluccio dei Sauri.
According to preliminary information from Italian media, the minor, identified as Alessio, was playing when he allegedly slipped, hitting first his head and then his neck and chest on the fountain wall. As a result of the hard impact, he lost consciousness and suffered cardiac arrest.
A resuscitation doctor, who happened to be in the area, immediately intervened and began efforts to bring the child back to life. Then the 118 emergency teams arrived at the scene with several ambulances from Troia and Foggia, as well as specialized medical equipment.
According to reports, resuscitation efforts lasted over 45 minutes, but unfortunately proved unsuccessful. Medics confirmed the 10-year-old's death at the scene.
The event has deeply shocked the small community of Castelluccio dei Sauri. Mayor Azzone, through a public statement, expressed the pain and condolences of the local administration.
"Castelluccio has stopped. Our small community has been struck by a great sorrow. The tragic loss of little Alesio leaves us shocked and deeply saddened. A new life interrupted is a wound that runs through the entire town," he said.
The Carabinieri also intervened at the scene, who launched investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident. Members of the Scientific Investigation Section (SIS) of the Foggia Provincial Command carried out technical inspections in the area.
The minor's body has been transported to the Foggia morgue and has been made available to judicial authorities. According to Italian media, the magistrate in charge of the case is expected to decide in the coming hours whether an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
