Found dead in an abyss, the Prosecution launches investigations into Mirel

The Shkodra Prosecutor's Office has opened investigations into the incident, where Mirel Çokaj was found dead in an abyss in the Kelmendi Mountains in Malesia e Madhe, where initially the police said it was an accidental fall of the victim.

Following suspicions by family and relatives about a possible murder of the 40-year-old, the Shkodra prosecution has not dismissed the case, but has initially opened investigations into the criminal offense of "causing suicide".

The person who raised suspicions of a possible murder, putting the Malësia e Madhe police in motion, who took several additional actions after initially saying it was accidental and causing the prosecution to launch investigations, is Rifat Çokaj, a relative of the victim who lives in the United States of America, and who previously served in the police for many years, holding important positions.

The incident occurred on September 18 of this year when the police received a report that a person had fallen in the village of Kozhnje in Malesia e Madhe. In the afternoon, initially via drone, the officers confirmed that the body belonged to citizen Mirel Çokaj. 24 hours after the report, it was possible to extract the victim from the abyss via an Army helicopter, which arrived and retrieved the body.

The relatives' suspicions are related to a possible murder, as according to them, Mirel Çokaj was in a drug plot about an hour away from where he was found before he lost his life. According to the family, the 40-year-old had the drug plot together with several other partners and they suspect that at least one of them may have pushed Çokaj towards the abyss with the intention of not giving him his share of the profit from this illegal business.

The cannabis cultivated there was ready to be harvested and prepared for the market and it was at this very moment that Çokaj was found lifeless in the abyss. Relatives also raised suspicions due to the fact that the victim's mobile phone has not yet been found and they believe that the person who pushed him also disappeared the mobile phone somewhere in the abyss, making his condition impossible.

Family members also report that the victim was supposed to return two days later and not on the day he left, and that he returned by a different route than the one he usually took to the drug parcel.

These are the family members' suspicions that lead to a possible murder and not an accidental fall.

In the place where the drug parcel was, immediately after the incident, the police found 780 cannabis plants and destroyed them, which proves that the victim, before he collapsed, had been guarding the drug parcel, a guarding that usually in these cases cannot be done by one person alone and according to relatives, he must have been with another person when they left.

The prosecution has now opened investigations and is questioning family members, relatives, suspects the family has, and other people who may have knowledge about this event to determine if we are really dealing with the murder of Mirel Çokaj as alleged.
