
A 39-year-old Turkish man has been arrested by police after being caught with smuggled gold and gold jewelry, with the intention of selling it in Albania.
The young man was seized with about 455 grams of gold, as well as 35,000 euros and 16,200 dollars, gained from the sale of valuables. He was caught during a search of the vehicle he was driving on “5 maji” street in Tirana, where the gold, valuables, cash, his vehicle and his mobile phone were seized.
A 58-year-old man, resident of Vlora, who was selling valuables on behalf of a Turkish citizen, was also identified and prosecuted.
"As a result of the rapid administration of information provided by police intelligence, regarding a case of smuggling of valuables, with the aim of selling them in Albania, the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in cooperation with Police Commissariat No. 4 and the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, finalized the "Gold" operation."
As part of this operation, Turkish citizen BA, 39 years old, resident of Istanbul, was arrested in flagrante delicto, and citizen SB, 58 years old, resident of Vlora, was released on bail.
"From the search of the vehicle driven by the Turkish citizen, on "5 May" street, 455 grams of gold and gold jewelry were found, which were suspected of being smuggled with the intention of being sold by citizen SB. The goods without purchase receipts were seized as material evidence, along with 35,000 euros and 16,200 dollars that were found on the 39-year-old, his vehicle and mobile phone ," the police announced.
