The names of the three Albanians arrested in Italy, who were caught removing 40 kg of cocaine from the container in the port of Livorno, are published.
The arrested are 49-year-old Alfons Teqa, 30-year-old Athanas Xhuveli and 36-year-old Rushan Kanushi, the latter a resident of the area of Sant'Elpidio a Mare municipality, in the province of Fermo, in Marche.
They drove into town in a rental car and stayed the night at an area motel. At midnight between October 25 and 26, they went to the port to receive a shipment of 40 kilograms of pure cocaine that had just arrived by commercial ship from Ecuador, hidden among bananas and inside a container.
The three Albanians arrested red-handed while receiving the order could have benefited from the amount of 40-50 thousand euros, but they failed. The value of the goods, if sold, would be at least 3 million euros.
The Italian media have revealed the itinerary, the scheme and the names of the detained Albanians. The operation was carried out by the Guardia di Financa and the Italian Customs Agency. The news was confirmed to the media only on October 31.
The intervention was carried out in Darsena Toscana, while the suspects are in Sughere prison. The three did not say a word in front of public prosecutor Daniele Rosa while they have lawyers. The first two would have come directly from Albania, while Kanushi was probably in Italy before arriving in the city to recover the large amount of drugs. It is suspected that they were hired as couriers to haul and deliver goods for the criminal group. They carried backpacks with them, where they had all the necessary equipment to open the newly unloaded container.
The ship was launched from the port of Guayaquil, in Ecuador, under the name "Cma CGM Imagination". Her flag was Maltese, as she made her transits in Marseille and Barcelona, but the scanner in Livorno detected the cargo. The drug, divided into 36 blocks weighing just over a kilogram each, will then be burned in an incinerator.
Just two months ago, another large shipment was caught in this port, with 148 kg of cocaine coming from South America, and 3 couriers who came from Albania to receive it were also arrested.
