Blendi Syla, 22 years old, and Robert Daci, 21 years old, are the two young Albanians who lost their lives in the tragic road accident last Thursday, January 29, along the provincial road connecting Savigliano with Vottignasco.
The two were traveling in a Jeep Avenger when the vehicle collided head-on with a truck.
Blendi Syla, originally from Kurbini, and Robert Daci, a resident of Mat, were in the car with a third person, also of Albanian nationality, who was seriously injured, but is not in danger of death.
The toll from the accident in Savigliano is three more people injured.
The collision was extremely strong. The two young men were trapped between the metal sheets of the vehicle and were removed by emergency teams with the help of firefighters. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for both of them. The bodies are awaiting the completion of the necessary procedures for repatriation to Albania, where they will be buried next to their families.
A man and a woman were travelling in the truck involved in the collision, both injured and transported to the Savigliano Hospital and the Cuneo Hospital respectively. Their health condition is not serious.
The identities of the victims were not made public by local authorities, due to the difficulties in identifying the bodies and the severity of the injuries sustained by the driver of the Jeep.
However, in the following days the news began to circulate in the Albanian media and newspapers. In one of the messages published online, Blendi Syla's uncle announced the mourning that has struck the family, explaining that the date of the funeral ceremony has not yet been set, pending the return of the body to the homeland.
The provincial road remained closed for several hours to enable rescue operations and investigations by law enforcement, who are working to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident.
This tragedy brings to mind another serious loss that has affected the Albanian community in the area: Claudio Gjoka, 22 years old, a resident of Saluzzo, who lost his life less than a month ago, on January 22, in an accident that occurred in Revello, where he was hit from behind by a heavy vehicle.
