A serious event has shocked the Albanian community in Lucca, Italy, where four members of the Kola family lost their lives as a result of a gas leak.
The tragedy occurred on Wednesday evening, February 4, 2026, and it is suspected that the cause was a defect in the boiler of their three-story apartment.
The victims are Arti Kola, 48, his wife Jonida, 42, and their two children, Hajdar, 22, and Jessica, 15. A fifth person, the brother of the head of the family, was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Two carabinieri, who arrived at the scene to provide first aid, also suffered mild intoxication, but are out of danger.
According to Italian authorities, the tragedy occurred around dinner time.
When rescue teams entered the apartment, they found the table set, indicating that the family was preparing to have dinner. The alarm was raised by the brother of the head of the family, who, after receiving no response after knocking repeatedly, notified the carabinieri.
After the entry of law enforcement, four dead bodies were discovered lying on the floor.
A little later, the fifth family member also lost consciousness due to carbon monoxide, but was rescued in time and urgently transported to Cisanellos Hospital.
Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the gas leak and to uncover all the circumstances of the tragedy that has left everyone in shock.
