A French citizen with the initials ZK has been placed under the security measure "Arrest with imprisonment" at the request of the Saranda Prosecutor's Office, after being accused of the criminal offense of "Computer Fraud".
According to investigations, the Frenchman, in collaboration with other persons, is suspected of having acquired banking data of Albanian citizens through fraudulent messages sent to the phone.
The perpetrators used SIM cards registered with other identities and sent SMS messages on behalf of the "Albanian Post", asking citizens to pay customs fees for a purported package.
The fraudulent message read: “ALBANIAN POST: Your package AL91359200 is subject to customs fees (55 ALL). Please confirm delivery at: https://aktivpostalb.com”.
Investigations suspect that through the sent link, the perpetrators managed to obtain the victims' bank details and use them for illegal gain.
The Saranda Prosecutor's Office is continuing investigations to identify other persons involved in the fraudulent scheme.
