The General Director of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, has ordered an inspection at the Korçë Local Police Directorate, regarding the incident in the city of Pogradec, where 42-year-old Egli Proga lost his life.
"The Directorate of Professional Standards in the General Directorate of the State Police will evaluate all the actions and reactions of the police officers, from the first moment of receiving the notification about the event, aiming to bring responsibility and responsible persons, if they result such.
The General Directorate of the State Police once again expresses its maximum commitment to the implementation of the law and the professional and integrity work of the police structures", it is stated in a press release.
For the incident in question, 29-year-old Denis Meçe ended up in handcuffs, after allegedly hitting him with hard objects, causing severe fractures that led to the death of 42-year-old Eglantin Proga and three other people, identified as Voltan Shulku , Arian Manellari and Leonidha Guçe, who are accused of not reporting a crime.
After the 42-year-old's death was initially reported as an accident, suspicions were raised that an attempt was made to cover up the incident.
In a public reaction, the Blues of Korça clarify that at no time and under no circumstances did any police officer of the Pogradec Police Station attempt to manipulate or cover up the event.
