Family members, acquaintances and residents of the area have spoken about the murder of the Albanian mason Shpëtim Ayvazi on the evening of Sunday, August 25 in Belgium by his Italian neighbor, Renato F.
And precisely the disagreements about the parking places in this area described as "luxury" or "very coveted", has also brought the denigration of the conflict to the point of murder.
The 43-year-old father of the children was killed by a bullet in the head inside his van, while the 19-year-old cousin was seriously wounded in the chest while parking the "Golf" type vehicle while trying to kill the victim's wife and 15-year-old son.
The 61-year-old plumber, a neighbor of the Albanian, has already been arrested and is in custody on several charges. The witnesses confess that the conflicts had started a long time ago and both the victim and the perpetrator had several cars and they disagreed about the parking spaces on the street in front of the building where they lived:
"Furthermore, this is a very expensive area and it's not easy to find parking spaces", residents told the Belgian media "Het Laatste Nieuws".
Not even the Belgian police could solve the conflict between the two men, even though they had come to the neighborhood several times after the conflicts and advised the plumber Renato F. and Shpëtim Ayvazin.
The Italian was divorced, lived alone and was the father of a 20-year-old son.
In fact, the two neighbors have been fighting over a parking space for years. Both families have several cars and places are expensive on their streets.
Even, according to a neighbor, the police intervened several times for this reason.
"They never missed an opportunity to argue," he says.
“We are losing a family member to such a stupid argument. Was this really the only solution? Are people no longer able to talk to each other? We are heartbroken", he says.
In addition to his wife and eldest son, Shpëtimi left behind two other children aged 13 and 5.
He worked for 17 years at "Consteca", a plastering company in Londerzeel.
"He was a loyal employee, no one had any problems with him", they say about him from within the company, stressing that he never caused problems.
The 43-year-old's wife and son escaped death, the Italian tried to escape.
According to some witnesses, after the shooting there was total panic in the neighborhood. The eldest son and wife of 15-year-old Shpeti, who were at home at the time of the shooting, immediately went out into the street.
According to a relative, he was threatened by Renato F., who was shooting from the sidewalk with the gun he was carrying in the apartment. Families lived next to each other.
"He pointed the gun at them as if they were next. There they saw Shpëtim in his van. They saw him die, it's terrible", testifies Bashkim Ayvazi, another cousin of the victim.
Conflicting opinions about the Italian: Hot-tempered, but very hardworking
For the Italian Renato F., opinions are quite divided in the neighborhood. To some residents, the 61-year-old, divorced for several years, and father of a son in his twenties - was gruff and unfriendly.
Others consider him a kind neighbor, always ready to help. Even his employer praises him.
“He's one of the best plumbers I've ever had. He sometimes told me about the problems with his neighbor, who was ruining his life with his tyrannical behavior. But, obviously, shooting someone is never a solution," he emphasizes.
The suspect was questioned by the police on Monday (August 26). His house as well as that of the victim were sealed pending reconstruction of the facts.
