A tragic event that occurred in February 2019 in Brazil continues to remain unsolved, while the family of the Albanian victim is still seeking justice.
28-year-old Alban Gropçaj, who had gone to Brazil for a few days of vacation with his Italian owner, was shot dead on a street in Fortaleza, a coastal city with over 2 million inhabitants.
According to family members, Albani was a quiet and hardworking boy, with no involvement in criminal matters. His brother, Iliri, says the murder has changed everyone's lives: "28 years old, to be killed without doing anything? After 6 years, we are still waiting for justice, because Brazil is dragging out the case too much."
Initial investigations in Brazil led to the arrest of the Italian owner, Guido Bertola, who was with Albani at the time of the incident.
According to witnesses, two men on a motorbike forced the car to stop and shot the 28-year-old three times, leaving him dead on the spot. Guido was found at the scene shaken but uninjured.
Family members suspect that behind the repeated vacations in Brazil and the psychological pressure that Albani felt from his employer, a darker motive may be hidden.
Despite the passage of years, Brazilian justice has still not determined the perpetrators or the exact motive for the murder.
"We just want to know why and who killed Albani," says his twin sister, Ana./Piranjat
