The Durrës Court has imposed this Wednesday the security measure "Arrest in prison" for 27-year-old Meklajd Meçaj, who is accused of stabbing his neighbor, Rrapush Memolla, 60 years old.
The serious incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Mollaj neighborhood of Rrogozhina. During the court session, Meçaj appeared calm and with a bandaged hand, as he himself was injured during the collision with the victim.
According to preliminary investigations, the crime occurred after a momentary conflict for weak motives. Before the jury, the young man stated that he had not intended to kill the 60-year-old, claiming that he had been stabbed first and that he had acted in self-defense.
He explained that the victim had stopped the vehicle near his apartment and provoked him with the high beams of the car. According to him, the conflict was not personal, but related to a disagreement the victim had with a cousin of his.
"In that incident, it was me and the victim. He hit me first and I defended myself. I didn't mean to kill him. I'm sorry too, I'm not a murderer..." , he said.
Asked by the judge if he had had personal conflicts with Rrapush Memolla, the 27-year-old denied such a thing.
"No, I personally had conflicts with that person... but my cousin had conflicts. Not with me, nothing with me, I have never spoken to him," he said.
Verifications show that Meçaj has previously been convicted in Germany. At the end of the session, the Durrës Court accepted the Prosecution's request, deciding to keep him in prison until the investigation is completed.
The incident occurred at around 9:50 p.m. last Saturday in the Mollaj neighborhood of Rrogozhina. According to police, after a brief conflict, Meklajd Meçaj stabbed 60-year-old Rrapush Memolla, who died during transportation to the hospital due to his injuries.
The perpetrator also suffered a minor hand injury, a wound allegedly inflicted by the victim during the fight. He was arrested by police a few minutes after the incident.
