After carrying out the investigative actions, the Shkodra Prosecutor's Office submitted to the court the request for the trial of the defendant Gjin Guri, who was accused at that time of committing the criminal offense "Production and possession of military weapons without permission".

In connection with this incident, Gjin Guri was arrested and sentenced in March 2015 to 2 years in prison. While in June 2015, this sentence was changed by the Shkodër Court of Appeal, sentencing Gjin Guri to 7 years in prison.

But after exercising recourse to the Supreme Court, in May 2016 this court sentenced Guri to 2 years in prison.

So, today's assassination attempt where Zef Guri lost his life, is suspected to be for revenge as the target was the victim's son, 46-year-old Gjin Guri.
