The territorial reform has caused clashes in the Parliament between the opposition and the majority, where debates have been accompanied by mutual accusations about local government reorganization projects and the fate of municipalities in the country.
The controversy erupted after Socialist MP Ardit Bido again mentioned the map proposed by the Democratic Party during the previous territorial reform, claiming that it envisaged the removal of Delvina's identity. The claim was rejected by Democratic MP Ina Zhupa, who categorically denied the existence of such a project.
Zhupa explains that the Democratic Party has always supported citizens' demands for the creation of more municipalities and not for their merger, while accusing the majority of hiding the plan to reduce local government units.
"The DP has never had a secret plan, a plan to merge a municipality or to remove its identity from Delvina. The only plan has been the citizens' request for more municipalities in Vlora, to make Ksamil a municipality, and Orikumi Novosela. The DP has supported it. We have not gone to hearings so that they can say whatever they want and do whatever we want like you. You will not find a citizen who says that two municipalities should be merged. Who are the 10 municipalities that will be merged? The other one says that names do not matter. We are talking about identities, cities, services, residents, you say we do not talk about names. Maybe you don't know either and do what you know how to do best, you are lying that you have no problem voting as the party demands next time", said Zhupa.
