Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the West for a lack of response as western Ukraine and other regions struggle to recover from a series of Russian air strikes that killed at least five people.
Zelensky has accused the West of "zero real reaction" to Russia's escalating bombing campaign against Ukraine, following a massive attack on Sunday that killed six people and injured 18 others.
"That's exactly why [Russian President Vladimir] Putin does this. He openly mocks the West, its silence and lack of strong action in response," he stressed.
Zelensky complained that "every" missile and drone launched by the Kremlin "contains parts that Russia is still supplied with" from Western countries and other countries, citing companies from the United States, China, Taiwan, Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea and the Netherlands.
"All this must stop," he added.
Russia's latest attacks in the Lviv region, far from the front lines and near the Polish border, on October 5, prompted Poland and its NATO allies to scramble fighter jets and put ground forces on high alert.
"Polish and allied air forces are operating in our airspace, while ground-based air defense and radar detection systems are placed on the highest state of readiness," Poland's operational command announced in a post on social media.
Poland described these measures as "preventive" actions intended to "secure airspace and protect citizens, especially in areas near threatened regions."
The move comes almost a month after an incident where dozens of Russian drones flew into Polish airspace, forcing NATO jets to scramble to intercept and shoot down several of them.
The September 10 incident was the first direct clash between NATO and Russia since the Kremlin began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Zelensky said on October 5 that at least five people were killed and ten others were injured in a "combined Russian attack," which included "more than 50 missiles and about 500 drones."
The attacks cut off electricity supplies to tens of thousands of people and damaged buildings and infrastructure.
"Today, the Russians again hit our infrastructure, everything that ensures a normal life for people," Zelensky wrote in a post on Telegram.
