Marubi Archive, declared a world heritage by UNESCO

The archive of negatives, objects and documents of Pietro and Kel Marubi has been officially declared part of the Memory of the World International Register by UNESCO. This is one of the highest accolades for cultural heritage and a great honor for Albania.

In the heart of Shkodra, this rare photographic treasure has immortalized the image, life and spirit of Albanians for centuries. UNESCO's recognition honors not only the Marubi family - the founders of Albanian photography - but also the city of Shkodra, which gave life to art and national memory, writes A2 CNN. 

" For the first time, Shkodra becomes part of the world's memory, taking a deserved place in the global history of cultural heritage. This achievement gives light and eternity to a unique heritage that makes us all proud!

One of the most precious treasures of our national memory is now declared a world heritage!  From the heart of Shkodra, this rare photographic treasure that has immortalized the image, life, history and spirit of Albanians, today receives the highest international recognition!

This is not simply an appreciation of the contribution of the Marubs, the founders of Albanian photography, but also an extraordinary appreciation for Shkodra, the city that gave life to the art, culture and memory of a nation.  FOR THE FIRST TIME, Shkodra has a part of its own in the Memory of the World!
