The well-known poet Agim Doçi has passed away, after suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage. Agim Doçi is the author of thousands of Albanian texts and songs.
The poet suffered a stroke and since it was not the first time, his health condition was very serious. He was hospitalized Friday morning at the Stroke Center after experiencing slurred speech and an inability to maintain balance. Agim Doçi was referred by the Pogradec Hospital where the attack had taken place and then immediately transported to QSUT by ambulance.
The news of the well-known poet's death was confirmed by his family members. The funeral ceremony will be held the next day in Tirana, while the tributes will take place at 11:00.
Who is Agim Doçi?
Agim Doç is the winner of over 50 awards, among them two times representative with his lyrics in Eurovision. Described as a great poet and one of the sharpest Albanian minds, Agim Doçi was born on May 9, 1948. He graduated in Engineering, but had a rare passion for literature. Agim Doçi has worked as an engineer in Industrial Assemblies, participating in many important facilities such as Cement Factory, Metallurgical, Laç Superphosphate, Tirana Polygraphic, etc.
In the last years of the 80's he worked at the Wood Plant "Misto Mame" as chief engineer for energy. In 1989, he was sentenced to work three shifts at the cardboard factory. Included in the December 1990 movements.
Agim Doçi has created more than 3,000 song lyrics that have been sung at Albanian festivals. He has published several books of poetry such as 'Come on wood and prey', 'Falled on loneliness', 'Ritual of crucifixion'. For his unparalleled contribution, the late President Bujar Nishani gave him the title "Great Master".
