While the current state of the Albanian icon, Parashqevi Simaku, is causing a stir in the network, new details related to her past have recently come to light.
The Authority for Information on the Documents of the former State Security 1944-1991, published a document which reveals new details about an event in August 1989 in the Student City, in Tirana.
Three students of the High Institute of Arts, after the end of the TV show "Music for everyone" in building no. 7, started to sing and shout with the slogans "Long live the institute", "Arts are the world".
A few moments later, "Viva Parashqevi, Viva", "Down with fascism" and then "Come gather here here" are heard from building no. 5.
The event, documented in the files of the former State Security, represents the spirit of Albanian youth who, even in a dark time, showed hope and courage to challenge oppression, reflecting the great changes taking place in Eastern Europe.

Even in the greatest darkness, youth finds a way to express the missing freedom, albeit in the most naive forms of reaction to oppression, control and punishment. Tirana, 21:34, dated 21.03. 1989, in the City of Students at the end of the TV show "Music for Everyone", in building no. 7, three students of the Higher Institute of Arts started singing love songs in a low voice, but they were joined by boys and girls from other buildings , with shouts and slogans "Long live the Institute" and "Art is the world".
She looked somber, a beautiful voice and face, free as a bird, redeemed and in the spotlight, in need of rescue. After a while they start from building no. 5, other calls are heard "Viva Parashqevi, Viva", "Down with fascism", then the songs "Come gather here, here, together with us", etc. We are bringing you a seemingly naive episode for today, but in 1989 this was a "real" act of youth thuggery, if you refer to the isolation and control of every educational and cultural cell with an iron hand, by the structures of power.
The document created by the former State Security, part of the archive fund of AIDSSh, shows a special episode from the last years of the communist regime, where the voice and youthful spirit were trying to challenge the isolation and suppression, this also in relation to the political changes in all of Eastern Europe. Was the choice of her name as a need for liberation? The event that took place in the City of Students in March 1989 reflects a spontaneous moment when art and personal emotions overcame the walls of fear and censorship.
In today's whirlwind of discussions where nostalgia for an artistic figure of those dark years mixes with human sensitivity for humanity, we understand that time flies for all of us and that isolation and stifling of feelings for a long time can distort memory. of a nation that fed him with optimistic and heroic texts in an almost tragic time for human individuality. Societies often need symbols that embody their aspirations for freedom and justice.
In the absence of an accurate memory, they often "find" or create images that reflect these values based on perception. But as Ernesto Sabato, the Argentinian writer, tells us: "It is not ideas that have saved the world, it is neither intellect nor reason, but their complete opposite: people's senseless hopes, their persistent rage to survive desires anxious to breathe with necessarily, their small and grotesque everyday herpesization, in the face of adversity.
