6,000 voters with expired cards in Himare, Celibashi: Should have been resolved
Head of CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, has admitted to the media that there are about 6,000 voters with expired identity cards, while adding that this figure was last year as well.

He emphasized that this issue should have been resolved earlier, while he delegated the responsibility to the political parties.

" The issue that has been the subject of discussion and brought to attention is that of identification tools. But as we have already informed, this is an issue that has nothing to do with the CEC's responsibilities, it is an issue that remains outside the electoral process. It is true that there are 6,000 voters whose documents have either expired or will expire until today. I have to say that the same number of voters was in the last elections. Why for these elections no decision was made by the government to extend the validity of identity cards, I cannot say. We have not had a communication today because it is not that there would be a solution today. This issue should have been resolved earlier. It is a matter related to the interest of the voters to have an identification document and then the responsible state authorities had to respond to the interest. The same goes for parties. I am not trying to avoid the gravity or the cause, but it is related to the interest of the candidates and the parties ", he said.

He further emphasized that the voting process for the partial elections in Himara, except for some sporadic situations, continues to be calm.

Chief Commissioner Celibashi mentioned that in Lukovo there has been a tendency to hinder the work of the media and this behavior, he added, is unacceptable and illegal.

"In general, the process went smoothly. There have been cases that have been identified as problematic. There were unauthorized persons in a voting center and it was claimed that they were keeping records of the voters. It has been intervened and resolved. In Lukovo, media representatives were not allowed to film. If any of the members do not feel comfortable with this, they should leave," he emphasized.
