Fatmir Xhafaj, a Socialist Party MP and a candidate on the open list of Tirana, has emphasized the need for dialogue, concrete commitment to citizens, and intergenerational cooperation in politics.

Four days before the May 11 elections, Xhafaj told the News24 studio that these are days that are now counted in hours and minutes.

“There is a lot of stress, demands for meetings and an extraordinary pace,” said Xhafaj, underlining that involvement in the electoral process gives him the opportunity to meet directly with citizens and discuss what has been accomplished and future goals.

The socialist MP, who has represented the same electoral district in Tirana for 10 years, emphasized the importance of stability and experience in politics, but also the need for new energy.

"I have 10 years without changing my electoral area. I have 10 years with the same people and I have 3 elections personally involved along with those of the local government, there are more. In electoral systems of this nature, it is a very good opportunity for dialogue with citizens to debate and discuss with them what has been done and future commitments. I believe it has been positive and I felt good that in the previous mandate I have presented to the citizens my agenda with several points where I publicly engage with them and I will consider them as causes of my political activity", he said.

Xhafaj recalled that in the previous mandate he had his own political agenda, publicly announced, which he considers a moral contract with the citizens.

The focus of this agenda has been the continuation of justice reform, the fight against corruption, as well as issues affecting young people and the new generation.

As chairman of the parliamentary anti-corruption committee, Xhafaj stressed that he remains committed to deepening reforms and strengthening justice institutions. “The SP program is broad and my first priority is to implement it, but alongside it, I continue to be committed to these issues declared as my personal causes in the campaign,” he said.
